About Us

Hill County Property Services keeps commercial and industrial sites safe and accessible throughout winter. We’re looking for a reliable Salt Truck Driver to support our deicing operations across Eastern Ontario.

Job Description

As a Salt Truck Driver, you will operate a company salt truck to refill onsite salt bins and deicing units at multiple commercial properties between Brockville and Cornwall. You’ll manage your route, keep accurate logs, and ensure all sites remain well-supplied during winter weather events.

Responsibilities

• Operate a designated salt supply truck on assigned routes
• Refill onsite salt bins and deicing units at various properties
• Load salt into the truck (equipment or manual handling)
• Complete daily truck and equipment inspections
• Maintain accurate logs of site visits and salt usage
• Communicate with dispatch for route updates
• Follow all safety and winter operation protocols

Requirements

• Valid DZ Licence (required)
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and manage material handling
• Experience with loaders/skid steers considered an asset
• Strong winter driving safety awareness
• Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working independently
• Clean driver’s abstract preferred
• Must be available for variable hours depending on weather

Compensation & Schedule

• $30 per hour
• Guaranteed minimum of 10 paid hours per week
• Additional hours available during storms

Role Summary

As an Equipment Operator, you’ll be part of our dedicated winter operations team, clearing snow and de-icing sites during winter events. You’ll work with a skilled team, operate top-of-the-line machinery (with heat and radios!), and help ensure sites remain clear and safe 24/7 throughout the season.

Job Responsibilities

• Operate loaders and skid steers safely and efficiently during winter storms
• Clear snow and apply salt/de-icing material based on site-specific guidelines
• Maintain detailed job and equipment logs for safety and insurance
• Perform basic equipment checks and maintenance (fluids, grease, air pressure, fueling)
• Collaborate with team members or lead operations on-site
• Maintain a clean and safe work area
• Be ready to work on-call 24/7 from November 1 to March 31
• Work long shifts, including 12+ hour storm events when needed
• Occasional lifting or shoveling in extreme weather conditions

Must have skills

• Valid G License
• 3–5 years experience in snow removal and heavy equipment operation
• Certified to operate wheel loaders and skid steers
• Physically fit and prepared for cold weather
• Reliable vehicle and smartphone with data

Expect tough weather—icy, slushy, freezing, wind. We’ll provide you with well-maintained, heated equipment, but you’ll need warm clothes, CSA-approved boots, and a good attitude. We show up when it matters most—through the night, during snow squalls, and in high-pressure situations.

Hill County Property Services is tasked with providing winter grounds services to a variety of customers with the purpose of maintaining safety and accessibility to our clients throughout the winter season. We hold our standards to the highest level of service.

Role Summary

The selected candidate will be responsible for operating equipment associated with sidewalk snow clearing and salting/Deicing, including, gas powered stand on plows, snow blowers, and hand shoveling as needed in the Clearing, Removing and De-Icing/Salting of assigned site(s) during winter events. This person will work directly with their Team of up to 4 members and under the guide of the Operations manager to ensure all areas are completed to the given expectations and guidelines of the contracted scope of work. Hill County expects punctuality, attention to detail and the ability to work long hours for the duration of storms and events to be key traits when hiring for this position.

Job Responsibilities

• Must be able to operate equipment in all weather situations to the highest level of safety and efficiency
• Must be physically fit and capable of shoveling snow and clearing walkways and access points
• Must be capable of managing the team in a productive and thorough manner allowing access to be unhindered during storms
• Basic mechanical maintenance and reporting of service issues, upkeep of equipment including: Air pressure of tires, fluid levels, greasing, fueling and washing
• Site, job and equipment logs to be filled out and completed with high level of detail and accuracy for insurance reporting
• Maintain a neat and orderly workspace and storage area
• Be able to guide and direct other workers in a civil and efficient manner
• Check on equipment during down times to ensure proper operation when needed
• Must be available 24/7 November 15th through to March 1st each season
• Long hours may be required including shifts longer than 12 hours.

Must have skills

• Working cellular phone with data capability
• Reliable means of transportation to work site in all weather conditions

• Guarantee pay of a minimum of 10 hours per week

Time

• This is contract work with set start date of November 15th and an end date of March 31st
• On call 24/7 position
• Shift work with some shifts possibly exceeding 12 hours

Reporting to our shop in Colborne and various sites after that

Working Conditions

The job of sidewalk snow clearing and removal can be a tough one, during the worst weather we are expected to be present, available and ready to work. This includes working in icy, slushy, wet and cold conditions through the night. You should always expect the worst and have ample dry warm clothing, and a good pair of winter CSA approved boots. Heavy lifting and shoveling is required occasionally.
